Resolved Question: Ignition systems?
i posted some of this question before but i got answers that brought up more questions i got a extra set of 8.8 wires off my camaro when upgraded to 10.5 i want to stick 4 of them in my 4 cylinder stock truck with some high performance plugs one said that it might not mean more hp and it might make the truck run worse i dont see how this is possible the distibuter still puts out the same volts the larger wires allow easier flow for more voltage at the plug and performance plugs and these wires will make a hotter spark burning more fuel providing better fuel milage and more hp wont it? somone told me theres a chance it will burn a whole in the cylinders is this true

Resolved Question: Ford truck ignition system?
I have an '87 ford truck with a straight six. The distributer stopped firing so I replaced the pick up coils and the module. The module checked out as bad. Still no fire. I went through the troubleshoot in my Hanes manual, and it seems I have a faulty ground from the coil back to the computer. I tried to ground the input to the distributer to get it to fire, but no luck. Any ideas? As I said the module checked out as bad. And an engine analyzer only works properly when the motor runs, this one does not. Does anyone know where this bad connection might be? Anyone who has had one of these before?

The mid 1980s were the beginning of the end for distributors in regard to new cars. The Buick grand nationals started using coil pack technology while many other GM vehicles were using dual tower coil packs sometimes known as waste spark systems. Others followed. Other common applications came from Mitsubishi and eventually Chrysler systems. MSD s DIS ignition controls are designed for engines with coil pack, waste spark ignition systems. The DIS-2 has two channels, to fire two coil packs, while the DIS-4 is capable of firing up to four coil packs, even 4 individual coils. Each control delivers full power capacitive discharge sparks from idle through racing RPM. Below 3, 00 RPM there is a series of multiple sparks that last for up to 20 degrees of crank shaft rotation to improve idle, starting and throttle response. These also come with many adjustable features through rotary dials. Includes over rev and hole shot protection, plus a step retard.
